Summer Blood Drive

We will be assissting the Red Cross.

Location: Ocean Springs Civic Center, 3730 Bienville Blvd.

We will need 2 volunteers per hour to assist the Red Cross with check in of donors.

We will meet at the Yacht Club before the Sept 10 meeting. As we did last year, we will make Hygiene bags filled with items for the homeless in our Community. Would like to have as many Rotarians as possible come early to that meeting day to assist. Many hands make for light work.

Items we will be putting in the bags: toothbrush and paste, shampoo, razors, soap, deodorant, shave cream to name a few.

Bio
Mattie Codling
Mattie Codling is the Executive Director at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) in Ocean Springs,
MS. Before her role as Executive Director, she was the Museum’s Director of Collections and Exhibitions for
nine years. Her passion lies in preserving the artwork of Walter Inglis Anderson and making it accessible to the
public. Along with the staff at the Museum, Codling seeks to develop new ways of connecting the Museum to
the greater community and providing opportunities for creativity, education, and environmental literacy.
Codling earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi in art history and anthropology and
completed her Master’s work in art history and museum studies at Florida State University. She has worked for
the University of Mississippi Museum in Oxford, MS, Mission San Luis Archaeological Park in Tallahassee,
FL, and the Ohr-O’keefe Museum in Biloxi, MS.
Codling has worked in the museum field for over fourteen years. Her passion lies in uncovering the past
through contemporary modes of interpretation. Curation and methods of intuitive design are areas of specific
interest for Codling. Her work seeks to foster appreciation of historic artworks and objects through the use of
modern modes of interpretation. A Southerner by birth, Codling is drawn to artwork that pulls from the region’s
rich legacy, yet confronts it as a reflection of contemporary society. At present, her work revolves around the art
and legacy of American painter, Walter Inglis Anderson. Codling is featured in the documentary, Walter
Anderson, The Extraordinary Life and Art of the Islander, and has written and spoken widely on Anderson’s
work.

Goal: Walking group of 12-15 Ocean Springs Rotarians to enjoy a Saturday morning walk in Downtown Biloxi while helping a great cause. Ocean Springs Rotary Club to raise  $1000.00 to donate to the Alzheimer's Association, Mississippi Chapter. Help a great cause and get a little exercise on a Saturday morning.
