This project will assist the Historic OS Association and the OS Canopy Renewal Project plant Live Oaks in Public Parks in Ocean Springs. Halstead Park is the location. Bring a shovel and gloves. OS Public works will auger the holes the day before. Tasks to include planting, mulching, watering, and root pruning under the supervision of a tree expert. Sign up sheets to go our late January 2026.

Update on The Jackson County Sheriffs Dept.

John_ledbetter@co.jackson.ms.us About John D. Ledbetter served as Chief Deputy for 8 years before being appointed Sheriff of Jackson County. Prior to this he served at the Pascagoula Police Department for 13 years. While at Pascagoula Police Department, he has worked as an officer in the Patrol Division, and a motorcycle officer in the Traffic Division. In 2007, Chief Ledbetter was promoted to Sergeant at Pascagoula P.D. and served as a Traffic Division supervisor, a Proactive Patrol Detail/Special Response Team supervisor, and then in the Administration Division. Chief Ledbetter was promoted to Lieutenant in 2011 and served as a Patrol Division shift supervisor through the remainder of his service with the City of Pascagoula. Chief Ledbetter's grandfather, Sheriff John C. Ledbetter, was elected Sheriff of Jackson County in 1975 after a 20 year career as the Pascagoula Assistant Police Chief. Sheriff Ledbetter remained in office until 1984. |
